    Job Summary


    Monona Plumbing & Fire Protection is seeking a dedicated Controller to oversee all financial activities. You will handle budgeting, forecasting, forecasting reporting, financial reporting, risk management, and cost analysis while also managing and developing a high-performing team. Your expertise will be instrumental in guiding the company’s financial health and supporting strategic decision-making.


    Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities


    Financial Management

    • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accurate and reliable financial reporting.
    • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
    • Monitor key financial metrics and variances, and provide recommendations for improvement.
    • Develop and manage the company's budgeting and forecasting processes.
    • Collaborate with senior management to establish financial goals and objectives.
    • Work closely with insurance companies and agents to handle quotes, renewals, claims, and audits as necessary

    Accounting Operations

    • Oversee the day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting principles and standards.
    • Review and approve financial transactions, invoices, and purchase orders.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions.
    • Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and regulatory compliance.

    Cost Analysis & Control

    • Monitor project costs, budgets, and profitability, providing analysis and recommendations for cost-saving measures.
    • Collaborate with project managers to review project financials, including job cost reports and labor analysis.
    • Perform variance analysis to identify deviations from project budgets and implement corrective actions.
    • Assist in the development and evaluation of pricing strategies for bids and proposals.

    Financial Planning & Strategy

    • Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
    • Conduct financial modeling and scenario analysis for business planning and forecasting.
    • Assist in evaluating investment opportunities and potential acquisitions.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in financial management.

    People Management

    • Supervise and mentor the accounting team and other staff as needed, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
    • Set performance goals and conduct regular performance evaluations for team members.
    • Foster a positive work environment, promoting collaboration, teamwork, and effective communication.
    • Ensure adequate staffing levels and optimize resource allocation within the department.
    • Resolve any employee issues, conflicts, or performance concerns in a timely and effective manner.

    Qualifications


    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree or CPA certification is a plus).
    • Proven experience as a Controller or similar role in the construction or mechanical contracting industry.
    • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting.
    • Proficiency in financial management software (Sage 300 CRE preferred) and advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Experience in managing and leading a team.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and provide financial guidance to cross-functional teams.

  • Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter/Inspector

    Job Summary


    The Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter/Inspector is responsible for the installation, inspection, servicing, and repair of fire sprinkler systems, including wet-pipe, dry-pipe, and pre-action systems. This role ensures compliance with national and local fire codes and standards while maintaining strong customer relationships through accurate documentation and communication.


    Responsibilities


    • Install, inspect, service, and repair wet-pipe, dry-pipe, and pre-action fire sprinkler systems.
    • Conduct periodic inspections per NFPA 25 standards, including internal piping inspections, obstruction investigations, flow tests, and hydro tests.
    • Ensure compliance with NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 14, 20, & 25 and other applicable fire codes and standards.
    • Accurately document all inspections, repairs, discrepancies, and recommendations using Service Trade and required state/local documentation.
    • Maintain a professional and positive relationship with customers, addressing any questions, concerns, or service needs.
    • Participate in an on-call schedule (once every six weeks) to respond to emergency service requests.
    • Adhere to safety standards and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

    Skills & Experience


    • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter.
    • Must possess a Wisconsin Fitter Card.
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Strong working knowledge of fire sprinkler system codes and standards.
    • Working knowledge of NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 14, 20, & 25.
    • Must be a Local 669 union member.
    • Ability to work independently and effectively manage time and workload.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality work.

    Physical Requirements


    • Must be able to lift, carry up, push, and pull up to 50 pounds unassisted.
    • Frequent lifting and carrying of toolboxes, tools, equipment, parts, cabling, and wiring.
    • Frequent ladder climbing, often while carrying up to 50 pounds.

    Other Requirements


    • Availability to work on-call shifts every six weeks.
    • Ability to work in various conditions, including heights and confined spaces.
    • Must be able to work the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the ability to be flexible to meet customer scheduling requirements
    • Must maintain a safe working environment at all times
    • Must keep company equipment, tools, and truck/van in clean working order

  • Sewer & Drain Technician

    Job Summary:

    The Sewer & Drain Technician will be responsible for providing sewer and drain cleaning services to both residential and commercial customers. This includes routine drain maintenance, emergency drain cleaning services, line locating and video inspection, and sewer cleaning. The technician will utilize various machines such as cable machines, jetters, locators, and sewer cameras for these services. They will also handle customer service calls by performing the necessary service and/or selling additional services to complete repairs and prevent further damage.


    Job Duties:

    • Clean and clear drains and sewer lines
    • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair drain and sewer line problems
    • Perform line locating and video inspection of sewer lines
    • Identify sewers in need of repair or replacement
    • Explain diagnosed problems, reasons, and resolution options to customers
    • Provide written estimates to customers for necessary repairs
    • Educate customers on the importance of routine drain maintenance and sewer repair and replacement
    • Collaborate with Service Coordinator/Dispatcher to ensure the success of sewer and drain business
    • Maintain and protect sewer and drain machines and camera equipment
    • Ensure thorough clean-up of customer property after work is complete
    • Train and mentor apprentices on sewer and drain business
    • Provide excellent customer service and communication to foster business relationships

    Qualifications:

    • 1-3 years of residential and/or commercial drain cleaning experience, including working knowledge of drain line methods, tools, and machines
    • Knowledge of drains and sewer lines
    • Previous experience with cabling/jetting of drain lines
    • Previous experience with sewer camera/video inspection
    • Familiarity with using smartphones, text messaging, and email; ability to use an iPad and smartphone
    • Effective communication and customer service skills
    • Professional and knowledgeable appearance and demeanor
    • Ability to work independently
    • Strong mechanical skills, including the use of hand tools and sewer and drain cleaning equipment
    • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex drain issues

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift sewer and drain machines, and lift 75-100 pounds multiple times a day
    • Operation of sewer and drain machines
    • Ability to work and drive in various weather conditions
    • Physical ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously

    Other Requirements:

    • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by the company's insurance
    • Ability to work 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and participate in a rotating on-call schedule for nights and weekends
    • Ability to meet and maintain physical and environmental job requirements
    • Ability to meet and maintain productivity, safety, and quality requirements
    • Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment
    • Keeping company equipment, tools, and vehicle in clean working order
